Digital infrastructures and information networks have become central to any business activity. The Information residing on these computers and networks are an essential asset and due care should be taken for its security. The impact of any loss of this asset or any down time of the infrastructure is quite high.
With the proliferation of easy-to-use tools and open how-to discussions, the number of people aiming to hack in to or bring down the network is high, both in this country and abroad. Hence securing information assets has become a challenge and is fast becoming a high priority job. Finding qualified people to meet these challenges is rather difficult.
As per the IS manpower demand estimation conducted by IDC (International Data Corporation) there is a huge gap between availability and actual manpower required in the country.

About the certification Program >
There are a large number of certifications available internationally like the CISSP, Security + etc. However, these certifications are very expensive and there are not many test centers in India. There are not any acknowledged Indian certifications in Information Security. The intention of this project is to provide quality certification at an affordable cost.
Information Security as a discipline is only beginning to appear in a regular curriculum in India. IS implementation is generally the task of a system administrators whose expertise is highly job specific and may not be up to date. You need up-to-the-minute skills to combat threats, prevent attacks and remedy unanticipated casualties.
The Objective of the Certification program is
a. To identify and define the skills, knowledge and abilities required in different performance areas of Information Security implementation or management
b. To certify in a reliable manner, the level of Knowledge, skills and abilities acquired by an individual in the different performance areas or roles as identified above

As much as it is important to know how to use a computer, so is it necessary to know how to protect your computer on a network. The information on the computer is an asset and the risks are very high. There are no geographical limitations to computer attacks.
The certification outlines every thing about Information security that a computer user (at all levels) should know. This foundation level certification will enable an individual to take other higher level certifications in the field.

Information Security Awareness Certification is aimed at any computer user for whom securing his information asset on a computer on a network is of concern. This may include Secretaries, Data entry Operators, IT professionals, Information analysts, System administrator, IT consultants, IT Managers, Systems Officers etc. As such there is no mandatory prerequisite to take the certification. However candidates are recommended to have experience using computers and the Internet.

An up to date syllabus has been drawn that will serve as a blueprint for learning or furthering skills in Information Security. The expertise that is gained through the certification process provides individuals with the kind of recognition they need —on the job, among colleagues, and by future employers.

We do not accredit any training institutes. However there may be training institutes offering training for this certification. A list of reference material is specified in the syllabus. Those planning to take the certification can also get on request, a soft copy of a basic reference material developed by DOEACC Centre Calicut for the purpose.
