ED 506: Wireless Communication Systems and System Design Using FPGAs ( 10 Days )

Aims & Objectives


Being the backbone for all the IT based developments; Data communication has seen tremendous growth in the past decade. There are new techniques and protocols emerging from time-to-time to cater the requirements of this rapidly growing area. It has a very important role in embedded systems also, because many of the present-day embedded devices are connected to one or the other type of Network at the device level. Some of them use wireless connectivity also. In this context, it is important to have a thorough understanding of the Data Communication, Wireless Technologies, Systems and Protocols.

 

This module includes fundamentals of data communications, discusses about LAN and WAN technologies, Switching and Routing. Then the wireless systems of GSM and CDMA, short-range wireless systems such as WLAN and BlueTooth and wireless-web connectivity are discussed.

 

The course is structured to include the learning of VHDL syntax and the architecture of most prominent vendor in the FPGA market, Xilinx FPGAs. Hands own experiments and a mini-project are included in the module
