Name of the Course       PLC & PID Controllers

Duration                         3 WEEKS

Starting date                  12th  May 2008

Course code                   PC104

Preamble

Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), having versatile functions and features like easy programmability, high reliability and flexibility enable cost effective and efficient control of the machines and processes. Conventional control cabinet and their maze of wires are transformed into miniature, user friendly system with advanced diagnostic features. Hence most of the industries are replacing their relay-based logic systems and solid state hard-wired logic controls with PLCs.

PID controllers can be implemented in PLC system along with other logic systems. Efficient controller design for any process control system makes the effective control of that process. One can achieve this by studying the process behavior and suitable application of control principles. Skill & knowledge for PID controller design & parameter tuning of it is essential for engineers in this field.

Objective of the Course

The objective of the course is an in-depth coverage of topics related with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Proportional Integral and Derivative (PID) Controllers stressing more the practical implementation for machines/ process plants

Outcome of the Course

This module is structured to provide information needed to implement PLCs for machines/ process plants with focus on strength of PLCs, efficient programming techniques and selection of PLCs.

Course Structure

Three weeks program covering the topics on PLC and PID Controllers

Location & how to reach

DOEACC CENTRE Calicut is located very near to NIT (REC) campus and is about 22Kms from the Calicut (Kozhikode) city. A number of buses [Buses to NIT via Kunnamangalam] are available from "Palayam Bus Stand or KSRTC Bus Stand". Our stop is called "Panthrand" & is one stop before NIT. The bus fare is Rs.10/- from Calicut City to DOEACC Centre and is on the right side.

The Calicut (Kozhikode) is well connected by Rail, Road and Air form different parts of the country. The climatic conditions in Calicut are perhaps one of the best in India throughout the year. The maximum and minimum temperatures range between 35 and 20os. The cool breeze further adds the comfort.
